Marques Houtman is a native of New Bedford.  (NBHS '97)  After recieving Standard Times Basketball Player of the Year in 1997 with a 24.5 ppg average, he attended Stonehill College.  However, after 3 semesters, he decided to transfer and play for the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. 
 
In 2.5 seasons at UMD, the 6-3 Houtman,  became the Schools 13th all-time leading scorer (1200+pts), D3 All American, and was the leading scorer of UMD's Nationally ranked (2nd in the nation) Little East Conference Champions (96 & 97)  25-2 team.
 
During his Junior year, he was selected to represent the Republic of Cabo Verde in the African Championship in Dakar, Senegal and posted 22ppg avg for the tournament, despite Cabo Verde not qualifying and has been a member since then. 
 
Houtman, after graduating UMD with a Management of Information Systems Degree, flew to Lisbon Portugal and avg 20ppg for Club Fisica de Torres Vedras in Portugals Proliga.  (2003)
 
The following season he was the first signee for the Boston Frenzy of the ABA, which had a star-studded cast of members including: Joe "Jellybean" Bryant (father of Kobe Bryant), Spyda & Helikopta from the And1 Mixtape Tour, and Troy Brown formally of the Atlanta Hawks.  He avg 13ppg and 4assts over 2 seasons. 
 
Marques, now resides in New Bedford and is currently an E-Commerce Professional and manages various web sites dealing with E-Commerce until he returns to Europe.
